Quick answers
Question | Short answer |
What vacuum source can I use? | Most vacuum sources used in a shop will work. For small setups, ~0.7 to 1.0 CFM is a good rule of thumb. |
What tubing size fits SYS-GRP pods? | 1/4 in tubing with 1/4 in push-to-connect fittings on #10-32 heat-set inserts. |
BenchGrip Minimus variants: what is different? | Single vs dual port (chaining), and center vs offset mounting (fit/clearance). |
What are the small black washers? | Sealing washers used when a fastener passes through the vacuum zone. |
How do I use AnchorDogs? | Use AnchorDogs to fasten from the top of a Doghole surface. See the step-by-step guide below. |
Can I use elbows or other fittings? | Yes. Swap the straight fitting for an elbow. Snug only. Optional sealant. |
Vacuum sources (pumps, portable options, and minimum airflow)
SYS-GRP is designed to work with a wide range of vacuum sources. What matters is consistent airflow and a usable vacuum level.
Rule of thumb
- Nearly any vacuum source capable of about 0.7 to 1.0 CFM (about 20 to 28 L/min) can drive SYS-GRP for single pod and small setups.
- More airflow and continuous duty capability improves consistency for multi pod arrays and porous materials.
Tubing and fittings
What size tubing fits SYS-GRP pods?
SYS-GRP pods ship with a 1/4 in push-to-connect fitting threaded into a #10-32 heat-set insert.
- Store: Push-to-connect accessories
- Recommended tubing: We recommend PU tubing to minimize kinks and maximize flexibility. Example link: PU tubing
BenchGrip Minimus variants (single vs dual, center vs offset)
Holding force is the same across Minimus variants. The differences are configuration and fit.
1) Single port vs dual port
- Single port: You will typically need a splitter or manifold to run more than one pod from one vacuum source.
- Dual port: Lets you chain pods in series so vacuum is created between each chained pod.
2) Center aligned vs offset mounting hole
Certain extrusions and bench builds may require the Minimus Offset to keep the top of the pod below the work surface.
Example: Top channel in Dashboard PWS or 15 series extrusion with a 19 mm (3/4 in) work surface.
Sealing washers (small black washers)
These washers are used with BenchGrip Minimus and Maximus series pods to complete the seal.
- When a fastener is inside the vacuum area, place the washer behind the supplied flanged M6 bolt before inserting the fastener through the pod.
- If you need a different fastener length, use a flanged style M6 or 1/4 in fastener to complete the seal.

Using elbows or other push-to-connect fittings
All SYS-GRP pods use a #10-32 heat-set insert so you can swap fittings.
- Unscrew the straight connector and thread on the elbow.
- Do not over-torque. Most quality #10-32 push-to-connect fittings include an O-ring.
- Optional: pipe thread sealant if you want extra peace of mind.
