SYS‑SRF Care and Finishing

Care instructions and optional finishing guidance for SYS‑SRF work surface panels.

SYS‑SRF panels are made from a high-density, moisture-resistant engineered wood composite and do not require a finish for normal workshop or jobsite use. The material is stable in variable humidity conditions and does not need surface sealing.

Optional Finishing

Applying a finish is optional. It can enhance surface durability and bring out the depth of the panel's color. Products that penetrate or seal the wood fibers work best — they highlight the material's natural tone without obscuring it.

Compatible finish types:

  • Hardwax oils (e.g. Rubio Monocoat)
  • Oil finishes (e.g. Osmo Polyx-Oil)
  • Polyurethane (water or oil-based)
  • Matte varnish

Apply per the product manufacturer's instructions. Avoid high-build film finishes that may fill dogholes or interfere with pocket geometry on Dock configurations.

General Care

Routine cleaning

Wipe down with a soft, slightly damp cloth and mild soap. Dry immediately — do not leave moisture sitting on the surface, particularly near panel edges or joints. For day-to-day dust and debris, a soft dry cloth is sufficient.

Cleaning agents

Use neutral soap or a mild detergent where needed. For stubborn residue on finished surfaces, use a cleaner designed for laminated materials. Avoid ammonia, bleach, solvents, and abrasive cleaners or sponges — these can damage the resin-coated wood fibers.

Spills

Wipe up spills immediately. The material is moisture-resistant but is not waterproof — prolonged exposure to standing liquid, especially near joints or edges, is not recommended.

Dogholes and pockets

Keep dogholes clear of debris. Packed sawdust or dried finish in dogholes can affect registration accuracy. A brush or compressed air clears them quickly.

Scratch prevention

Use felt pads under heavy items that will sit on the surface for extended periods. Light surface scratches do not expose a different-colored core — the material is pigmented through its full thickness.

Surface restoration

If a finished surface looks dull or shows light scratches, reapply a coat of oil or wax per the original finish product's instructions. This restores protection and brings the color back up.

Extrusion interfaces

Check that extrusion and mounting hardware remain snug periodically, particularly after transport. Refer to the SYS‑SRF Extrusion Kit instructions for re-seating guidance.
